As an independent specialist law firm, Massons attracts a high-quality clientele that includes some of Australia’s best-known companies. We practice in all jurisdictions across Australia, and have the responsibility for managing a broad range of complex, large and exciting property transactions.
Our partners, Jodie Masson and Leisha de Aboitiz, built their careers in large global law firms – and figured there must be a better way of doing business. In establishing Massons, they were determined to provide a better working environment for their lawyers, while continuing to provide a premium service on the same “high end” deals for their long-term clients.
Massons offers the opportunity to work as part of a team on high quality commercial property matters from day one, and senior lawyers who are genuinely interested in you and your career. Whilst we can’t guarantee a graduate role, to date all of our law graduates have been employed straight from our paralegal program, rather than from a more formal summer clerkship program. This ensures that our graduates are already advanced in their legal knowledge and client skills, even before they complete their final “practical legal training”.
Consistent with doing business in a better way, and contrary to the competitive 3-month clerkship intensives favoured by most of the larger law firms, Massons considers that graduate recruitment is too important to rush. We invest the time and money in training each individual paralegal over an extended period to build legal, client and commercial skills in a supported team environment. If you start as a graduate with Massons, you will already be part of the team.
We employ paralegals on a casual and “as needs” basis, but generally most paralegals will work with us 2 or 3 days per week, depending on their university commitments, increasing their work days (and moving from more administrative to more legal work) as they gain more experience. We accept 2nd year to final year university students for our paralegal positions.
If successful, you would be working in our offices in Sydney, on the waterfront at Jones Bay Wharf.
To be considered for this role, you will be highly intelligent, motivated and a team player. We are looking for people we can invest in and mentor to become excellent lawyers, who want to develop a career as part of our team. Previous experience as a paralegal is not required, though will be preferred.
Ideally you intend for your paralegal role to lead to a graduation position and you:
