Pro bono partnership – graduate secondments

 

Massons and Human Rights for All (HR4A) entered into an award-winning secondment partnership in 2022 to both “give back” and help develop a new skill set and understanding amongst the junior lawyers in our team.

The Massons’ funded secondment program was in place from 2022 to 2024. During this period, Massons seconded graduate lawyers to HR4A on a pro-bono and rotating basis. The intention (and purpose) was not just to “give back”, but also to educate young lawyers in human rights at a grass roots level and create a sustainable pro-bono secondment program. The program literally changed lives and allowed Massons’ graduates to apply their technical legal skills in new (and challenging) ways – doing the kind of work that inspired them to study law.

HR4A advocacy has led to significant reform, realising key goals for HR4A (and its clients) and meaning that HR4A no longer requires this level of pro bono support. Massons is proud to have contributed to this change.

Work experience – investing in our youth

 

Massons believes the future of the legal profession depends on investing in young people.

In 2025, Massons established a structured work experience program for secondary school students to provide practical exposure to legal practice. The program is designed to provide meaningful insight into life as a lawyer whilst ensuring appropriate supervision and client confidentiality. Students are given the opportunity to participate in simulated legal tasks and one-on-one learning opportunities with members of the Massons team.

Our objective is simple: create pathways to better understand the legal profession with a view to developing the next generation of property law specialists.

Recognising excellence – supporting high achievers 

 

Massons recognises and supports academic achievement and diversity by funding university property law prizes and “blind” merit-based internships.

The university partnerships involve a cash prize for the top property law student in each year as well as an optional paid internship. The internship is offered without any requirement for an interview. The criteria is purely merit based – intentionally designed to foster a university recruitment path without any cultural or social bias, founded completely in merit, effort and a passion for property law.

The firm is committed to creating opportunities for students from a diverse range of backgrounds and fostering the development of the next generation of exceptional property law specialists.

 

Aspire Education Fund

 

Massons is proud to support initiatives that improve access to education in all spheres and create opportunities for young people. As part of this commitment, Massons supports the Aspire Education Fund by City West Housing , an initiative that aims to improve educational opportunities for children and young people living in social and affordable housing.
